In our shared iPad environment I am not able to include webclips to the configuration profiles. If I include those, the configuration profile will always fail to install. In the past we had no problem doing this, this issue has only come up since we enrolled our iPads as 'shared'.
I am including the webclips in the standard settings per device group.
Am I overseeing something?

Hey, I have this problem too. I have a profile with just a webclip and it fails with the error code 4001 MCInstallationErrorDomain. My MDM provider says that the profile needs to be a user scoped profile, but there are no web clip payload options when I try to configure a user scoped profile. So far, my MDM has said that it could be a UI thing and it is available and just not showing on the page, or they just haven't written the code yet 😠. Either way I haven't been able to get this to work yet.
I'm just wondering if you have found a solution yet.
I have not found a solution yet, but I haven't tried either. I use Profile Manager and OSX server (now MacOS Server ?) as mdm solution. Maybe with Sierra, problems like this one within Profile Manager have been resolved. I will see into it. Other mdm environments rely on what Apple offers in Profile Manager so if your mdm vendor keeps up it might be resolved for you as well.

I also called Apple and they didn't seem to think that it would be an issue putting a web clip on a shared iPad. But they also acknowledged that the shared iPad is so new, there might be an issue with it.
I even tried creating a profile with Apple configurator, containing just the web clip, and emailing it to myself on the ipad. I got an error this way too when I tried to install it. I guess I'll just have to wait for now...
I'm wondering how this could stay unnoticed to Apple. Is nobody using shared iPads yet? Or is nobody using webclips in their profiles? It's not really essential, but very convenient to be able to use webclips.
Push the webclip payload out to user group not ipads.
